Rob Owen - Trustee

Rob Owen became a member of WWSC in 1979 and went on to become the first homegrown professional sportsman in 1983 at the age of 18.

He successfully reached the top 20 in the world and represented England at both junior and senior level.

He was voted by his peers to become a board member of the International Squash Players Association (I.S.P.A) for a period of three years helping to grow the sport and increase funding and sponsorship of the tours.

Rob retired from the professional circuit at the age of 27 and went to London to study for four years to become an optician.  At the completion of his training he returned to Birmingham to set up his own practice based in the city.

In 2001 Rob sold the business and now works full time trading on both the financial and sports markets.

By popular demand, Rob set up the Rob Owen Academy in 2011 where he helps young professionals on a voluntary basis.  The Academy also provides good publicity and promotion of WWSC on a local and national scale.

The Academy has now expanded with 10 players travelling to or training out of the club on a full- time daily basis.  The top ranked player is currently No. 7 in the world and the Academy is recognised as a “Centre of Excellence” for young juniors and pros in the country.  This accolade has established WWSC as being one of the only performance hubs in the UK by England squash.

Rob brings this passion for success to his role as Trustee.  He uses his business and sporting experience and contacts to help promote and develop the club as well as being available and hands on at the club on a daily basis.
