THE “ YOU BOYS
“
CHALLENGE
Bill Treadwell wins a Thriller
Bromsgrove welcomed us with a good day’s weather for our 24 golfers.
This was reflected in some good scoring by most of the players in the morning
round.
Lord Lucan was again missing for the morning round, his place
temporarily taken by Gordon Allen. He did turn up for the afternoon. Thommo
tried to sabotage the playing order arriving late on the tee, was it because he
heard he should be playing with the missing Lord? ( He will be in a later group
next time)
At the halfway point Leighton lead the field with 41 points just ahead
of Bill Treadwell 40, Alan Hanlin 38 and Andy Mcleod & Dave Evans 37 with
at least 6 more players in close contention. The Donkey Stakes was easily lead
by the Grenfell brothers.
The Donkey Stakes provided an
intriguing & closely fought contest and even though Rick Shaylor was obviously
reluctant to relinquish it with his afternoon low score, Chris Grenfell successfully held off all challengers to win The Donkey this year. Well done Chris!
The 2nd round saw a good score by Thommo 39 points, total 73 points and for a long time was “ Leader
in the Clubhouse”
5 blobs by Alan Hanlin, reduced his total to 69 points and out of
contention. A disappointing front 9 reduced L.R. to 34 points, totalling 75
points and 3rd place. A great front 9 by Andy Mcleod 23 points
pushed him to the front, but only 15 on the back, condemned him to 2nd
(on count back) with 75 points.
Debutant Bill Treadwell put
together two outstanding rounds, both in the 40’s, to storm to a comprehensive
win with a total of 81points, 6 points ahead of his nearest rivals.
As a departure from the previous award to “The Best Dressed Man on the
Tee,” who obviously has no need for a grooming pack, it was decided to award it
to The Worst Dressed Man on the Tee. There
was little hesitation in naming Tony
Painting as the outright winner.
The Longest
Drive in the morning on 18th saw Chris Grenfell outdrive Pinkman, but in the afternoon Pinkman took his revenge passing Steve
Tremble and Alan Rogers on the 8th.
Nearest the
Pin on the 7th in the morning saw lots of contenders with Nigel Jarman closer than the rest, and
in the afternoon on the 11th Roger Dunmore beat all the others.
The Winners enclosure:- Winner Bill Treadwell 81 Points
2nd Andy
Mcleod 75 “
3rd Leighton
Rickards 75 “
Well played Boys! A good day’s
Golf, enjoyed by all.
