Men's Tennis

Men's Tennis Section

The Men's tennis section has 4 teams in the Birmingham Area Leagues and 1 Team in the Coventry Leagues

This has to be the most frustrating season yet, after the promotions of last year it was always going to be tough to consolidate, next year I'm banning holidays and injury!!!!  In all seriousness there are several positives to take from what looks on paper to have been a long, hard season.  If not the impact new members, Chris Allen and Stuart Francis, in bringing to strength and depth to the teams, the maturity of promising juniors such as Oliver Sellers (congratulations on becoming club champion!).  The dedication of rising star Dan Evans, turning out for his club as and when his tournament schedule allowed.  The establishment of a dogged partnership in the form of Andy Jeffs and James Bovill.  The Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid of OWW, Scott Key and Mike Harradence once again proved life begins at 39!

Winter 2008/2009 provides a wealth of opportunity for those wishing to play social and competitive tennis at OWW, Andy Jeffs is running a Coventry Winter League team for players looking to experience team tennis for the first time, matches take place every fortnight on a Sunday morning.  Ian McCauley, will be running the Birmingham Winter League team for the more experienced team players.  In addition to this Thursday night team training will continue 6.30 p.m. - 7.30 p.m. followed by men's night for social tennis.

Birmingham Leagues:

1st Team - Division:  2 - Finished:  5th

Contenders for promotion at one stage of the season, this is a team should be knocking on the door next year!!

The Main Players:  Scott Key, Mike Harradence, Chris Allen, Oliver Sellars, Dan Evans and Gary Perkins

2nd Team - Division:  4 - Finished:  6th

A shaky start but the ship steadied at the back end of the season.

The Main Players:  Simon Heaton, Richard Arthey, Chris Elks, Richard Guy and Adam Guy

3rd Team - Division:  6 - Finished:  4th

A blend of rookies and experience guided the team to a respectable finish.

The Main Players:  Ian McCauley, Andy Jeffs, James Bovill and an assortment of players from the 4th team

4th Team - Division:  8 - Finished:  9th (Relegated)

I fear Jim's cap provided no solace for dust mites this year!

The Main Players:  Jim Pereira, Porick McTernan, John McTernan, Stuart Francis and Chris Moore

Coventry League:

5th Team - Division:  3 - Finished:  7th (Relegated)

The 'social' team found the dizzy heights of division 3 a step too far this year.

The Main Players:  Andy Jeffs, Simon Heaton, Adam Guy, James Bovill, Stuart Francis, Richard Arthey

I'd like to thank the players who played up when called and those on the fringe of the teams who I know played on occasion for various teams in particular Tony, Paul, Peter and Richard.
7.30pm – 9.30pm Men’s Social Tennis – All men’s tennis members welcome
