The Final of W.W. 4 Ball 2016 goes to 21st Hole
The conclusion of this year’s 4 Ball Competition, between Defending Champions Pinkman & Luke Burgess V Lee Rhodes & Bob Singh, was a match well deserving of the Final.
Friday 11th November provided a beautiful autumn day for golf with the course at Robin Hood prepared meticulously.
Despite holding a 3 hole advantage at some stages, Luke & Pinkman approached the 15th green only 1 up. A halved hole brought no change. The 16th produced some fireworks, with Lee chipping in from the bunker for a winning 2. ALL SQUARE,
17 saw a lost ball, and some difficult shots through & round trees. Luke got his par 4, but Lee wins the hole with a 4 net 3. Lee & Bob 1 UP.
On to 18, where a superb approach by Pink from 165 yds. yielded a Birdie 3 to win the hole. BACK TO ALL SQUARE and SUDDEN DEATH on further holes.
On the first extra hole, Lee very nearly repeated a chip-in from the edge of the green, but the ball lipped out to deny him a win and the match. Hole halved and on to the 2nd where the hole is also halved in Par.
Now for the 3rd extra hole. (Shots for Bob & Pink). From the tee, Bob hooks into the practice ground ditch, can only drop out. Pink in the trees on the left has to chip out. Lee & Luke are mighty down the fairway. All on the approach shots then. Bob loses his way and is out of it; Pink (3 net 2) & Luke 2 on the green. Extra adrenaline from Lee puts him out the top of the green from where he plays a tentative chip only halfway to the pin on the front, played 3. Luke misses his Birdie putt. All down to Lee & Pink, both putting downhill on the slippery green. Lee misses and rolls past. So does Pink, but sinks the return for a 5 net 4, to win the hole and the match.
Congratulations to Pinkman & Luke Retaining the Trophy in 2016
