Under 11's County Champions

Olton's u11 are County Champions.

In the final played on a lovely pitch at Warwick CC, Olton were asked to bat by Stratford upon Avon. A really solid start was made by Mushi(16) and Callum (7) making 27 withoiut loss in their four overs. Russtam (16) and Eesa (4) took the score on to 51-1. Ethan (17) and Hussama (8) got the score up to 80-2 and Will (13) and Haydn (9) finished off the innings at 97-4

Dingley, Louis and Middleton all bowled well for Stratford taking a wicket a piece, complimenting a good fielding performance by the side.

The question was could Stratford get them. In opening up with slow left spinner Mushi Straford were always on the back foot and their first four overs only yielded 9 runs for the loss of a wicket. Already they were behind the rate. Louis and Dingley in the second pair made a valiant effort to close the gap and had taken the score to 33-1 after eight overs.

The introduction of Hussma's leg spin against Stratford's third pair brought Olton 3 wickets including a run out and consequently with four overs to go Stratford's score of 40-5 meant they had a mountain to climb. Eesa having bowled an over at the start returned to bowl two more and take 3 wickets as Stratford tried in vain and although the last pair amassed 30 runs they also lost four wickets and so Stratford's innings close don 50-9.

Olton win by 47 runs.

Under 11's

The u11 eight a side team reached the final of the WCB u11 competition with this impressive win over Ambleside.

Ambleside's strong team put Olton into bat and the Olton openers Mushi and Callum got the team off to a solid start with 24 runs in their four overs. Eesa and Russtam then built on the foundation and took the score to 51 after 8. Ambleside bowled really well and whilst Ethan and Hussama scored 24 between them Ambleside struck 3 times so that after 12 overs the score had increased to 75. Captain William Rigg led the way with Haydn in the final pairing and Olton closed on 306, a net score of 271.

Ambleside always thought they would be able to manage that score but Olton's bowlers rose to the occasion. Although they did not take a wicket in the first eight overs, accurate bowling meant that Ambleside had only scored 26. Ethan Brookes bowled a particularly fine spell of 3 overs for 7 runs. But it was the introduction of Hussama's legbreaks into the action that gave Ambleside real trouble as he bowled his three overs for 8 runs and taking the wicket of top scorer Gledhill. With Mushi to bowl at the last pair his orthodox slow left arm spin was almost unplayable on a wicket that gave assistance to spin bowlers and he took 2 for 7 in his three overs. Cameron Rice and Jake Warmington gave it a go for Ambleside as the last pair but in doing so lost four wickets in the final three overs and Ambleside finished on 265 a net score of 235.

Olton go to the final on Monday July 25th v the winners of Marston Green and Startford.

Under 15's »

Olton's under 15 team totally dominated Harborne in this U15 Premier Cricket League match.

Batting first Pemberton and Moulton got Olton off to a good start with 36 for the opening wicket. Moseley was out shortly after and Pemberton and Baker took the score to 71 when Pemberton was out.

Baldwin joined Baker and they put on 113 for the fourth wicket as Tom Baldwin hit a rapid 91 with 16 fours. Baker departed shortly after for 34 and Olton closed on 204 for 7 after their 25 overs.

Harborne began brightly enough but it was Baker who struck first with Pemberton taking a good catch behind the stumps with total at 14. George Rees then took two good wickets and an excellent steer on to the stumps to run out the non striker. Baker was then whittling his way through the Harborne middle order, taking two in successive balls before Rishi Patel came on finished matters in short time. In his fourth over he took the last four wickets and three in four balls with a wide of all things between the first and second wicket as Olton bowled Harborne out for 45 in 15 overs to win by 159 runs.

Youth Report from Olton and West Warwickshire CC

William Rigg’s 179 star performance caps great season for Olton & WW youth teams and players.

Eleven year old William Rigg, captain of Olton & WW u11 team, pupil at Solihull School and Warwickshire County u11 batsman, broke all the scoring records for Olton when he played in a Warwickshire u11 County match versus Gloucestershire at Kenilworth CC on Monday June 27th where he scored an amazing 179 runs in the county’s 309-6. (The second highest score ever made by a Warwickshire Junior.)

William is having a fantastic year having already compiled 422 runs for Olton in various u11 and u12 matches (this does not include that 179) but is just the leader in a wonderful season Olton& WW youth teams are having. They have now played 26 matches and won 25. (William has now got 650 runs under his belt and that does not count what he has scored for his school and it’s still only June!)

Olton’s under 15 team are the star performers with five wins out of five to lead the Warwickshire u15 Premier league. In another thrilling match on Sunday they restricted Leamington, the only other unbeaten side in the league to 127, and then chased the total down with two balls to spare with Sean Baker 36 not out leading the charge home, as the side with wickets in hand, scored 54 runs off the last six overs.

The club’s u11 team have played 7 and won 7 and go into the last league match having won their group before progressing to the knock-out stages. The u10’s season is just getting under way but are unbeaten in three matches so far as are the u12s who have a similar record. whilst the u13 team is also unbeaten in their league.

The club has seven county players with Amir Shabir in the u17s leading the way and a fantastic group of six u12,u11 and u10s representing the county. With Liam Gately at 18 playing Warwickshire 2nd XI cricket the club’s young players are a credit to all the hard work of coaches and the dedication of their parents and the players themselves.

Under 15's make it 3 out of 3

In the Warwickshire Cricket Board u15 Premier League Olton faced local rivals Knowle and Dorridge following a thrilling last ball victory last week away at Atherstone. Today's match was to create even more tension and excitement.

K & D batted first with Roberst and Withington making a solid start of 31 for the first wicket in 5 overs. A second breakthrough occured at 45 when Baldwin dismissed Hughes. Townsend came to the wicket and watched Withington (21) bowled by Baldwin for his second wicket with the score at 51 in the 12th over. Olton struck again three overs later dismissing Starkey. But that was Olton's last success as Szarmach (52*) and Townsend (46*) batted beautifully and were undefeated on 152 when the innings closed after 25 overs. Tom Baldwin was the pick of the bowlers with 2-15.
