24 point win not enough.
Olton's 2nd XI had a massive 24 point away win in their final match of the season but could not quite secure promotion to the Birmingham League 2nd Division finishing 5 points behind winners Newport and 4 poinst behind runners-up Ombersley.
At the start of the day any one of six sides could have been promoted, but Newport and Ombersley both won too and Olton could not close the gap.
The team did all that skipper Steve Hawkins asked of them, scoring a massive 291-3 with Graeme Plaistow 103*, Dan Johnson 100*, allowing Steve to declare and earn extra overs for his bowlers.
Jamie Hawkins and Jon Stott did not let him takinh 4-53 and 3-37 respectively and only resistance from former Olton player George Robinson 41 delayed a rampant Olton team.
Steve Hawkins in his first season has transformed the 2nd XI, which last season finished bottom but tis year has challenged all the way through and finished 4th but only 5 points behind teh winners.
