2011 Season

Men's First XI v Ansley Sports

Olton managed to get the winning feeling again after thrashing bottom of the league Ansley by 8 wickets.

Ansley won the toss and decided to have a bat on a good track but there was rain in the air and a wet outfield could make this an interesting decision. With this in mind, Sunil Vyakaranam (2-37) opened up with Jamie Hawkins (2-41), and with some resistance from Boyd, Olton made quick inroads with both openers taking two wickets a piece to leave Ansley struggling on 70-4. The rain then hit but fortuanatly for the home side, it didn’t last and managed to get back on the field after 20 minutes. Darren Kok and Nathan Docker didn’t let the Ansley batsman settle and continued the great pressure. Yasir Ali of Ansley was the only batsman to hold any resistance but his 31 wasn’t enough when Docker bowled him and continued to rip through the rest of the line-up. Kok finished with figures of 2-43 and Docker picked up his third 4 wicket haul of the season to leave Ansley short of a decent total with 187 for Olton to chase in 53 overs.

The reply was delt with in a proffesional manner with Liam Gatley and Chris Joiner giving no chances at all and put in a match winning 129 partnership. Gatley putting in most of the runs with a superb 88 and his third half century of the season. Gareth Simpson was out only for 5 but it was done when Aussie Docker (25*) smashed the rest of the bowling and allowed Joiner record his first half century for the 1st team with an unbeaten 52.

Olton then gaining ground on leaders Streetly to leave them 3rd in the Warwickshire Premier League. Next up is Kings Heath Away (1.30pm start).

v Bedworth 04/06/2011

Nuneaton 28th May

Olton provided yet another positive result against Nuneaton to remain at third spot in the Warwickshire Premier League on Saturday.

Being put into bat by Nuneaton, Olton looked to seize the initiative on a great pitch and olton did just that. Liam Gatley and Mohammed Ishfaq batted sensibly and put on 89 for the first wicket before Ishfaq was stumped for 28. Gatley continued to his second league 50 of the season before going shortly after for a top scoring knock of 59. Heroes of last week Gareth Simpson and Nathan Docker then continued to increase Oltons score with some comfortable batting. Simpson was next to go for 35 after holing out on the boundary to Tedds before Docker then followed suit in the same way to the same bowler for 32. Michael Ceillam (21) and Marc Webb (33) provided a similar platform and as Olton had wickets in hand, pushed the score to a big total. Scott Ellis and Jamie Hawkins also provided more promising batting and managed to push Oltons score to 267-6 off the allotted overs. Nuneatons swing bowler Tedds ended up with 5-91 but Olton had the initiative going into the break.

Olton started poorly with a change of ends from both opening bowlers but after the uneasy start, Jamie Hawkins (3-44) picked up the first three wickets of Nuneatons line up and put Olton on top at 69-3. Steven du Cros (2-28) and Sunil Vyakaranam (1-38) then provided another three quick wickets in three overs after a minor fight back to leave Nuneaton struggling 104-6. Olton thought the game would be sown up quick but a stubborn tail couldn’t be budged despite best efforts of Nathan Docker’s leg-spin (2-20). Olton fell short by 2 wickets but another positive performance helps Oltons confidence going on for the rest of the season.

Bank Holiday Mondays League game against Bablake Old Boys was unfortunately hit by the weather along with all cricket in the Warwickshire League. Olton next host promotion rivals Bedworth at home (1.30pm start).
