Olton managed to get the winning feeling again after
thrashing bottom of the league Ansley by 8 wickets.
Ansley won the toss and decided to have a bat on a good
track but there was rain in the air and a wet outfield could make this an
interesting decision. With this in mind, Sunil Vyakaranam (2-37) opened up with
Jamie Hawkins (2-41), and with some resistance from Boyd, Olton made quick
inroads with both openers taking two wickets a piece to leave Ansley struggling
on 70-4. The rain then hit but fortuanatly for the home side, it didn’t last
and managed to get back on the field after 20 minutes. Darren Kok and Nathan
Docker didn’t let the Ansley batsman settle and continued the great pressure.
Yasir Ali of Ansley was the only batsman to hold any resistance but his 31
wasn’t enough when Docker bowled him and continued to rip through the rest of
the line-up. Kok finished with figures of 2-43 and Docker picked up his third 4
wicket haul of the season to leave Ansley short of a decent total with 187 for
Olton to chase in 53 overs.
The reply was delt with in a proffesional manner with Liam
Gatley and Chris Joiner giving no chances at all and put in a match winning 129
partnership. Gatley putting in most of the runs with a superb 88 and his third
half century of the season. Gareth Simpson was out only for 5 but it was done
when Aussie Docker (25*) smashed the rest of the bowling and allowed Joiner
record his first half century for the 1st team with an unbeaten 52.
Olton then gaining ground on leaders Streetly to leave them
3rd in the
Warwickshire Premier League. Next up is Kings Heath Away (1.30pm start).
