Overnight rain left parts of Oswestry's pitch damp. Flame throwers were being used to dry it out! Oswestry won the toss and decided to bat! All became apparent as at that point in time they had only seven men at the ground. A delayed start occured because there was no sawdust but, eventually, 21 mins late and a game reduced to 52 overs, play began.
A dream start! Roy Adams pitches the first ball in the wet spot, Warrick Fynn, Oswestry's South African overseas dollies it up to Babar and its 0-1. Roy strikes again and its 13-2 as Liam snatches one behind. Oswestry's best stand (29) occurs next as Humphreys and Huxley proceed warily but Gary juggles it at slip to dismiss Huxley off Babar and Jamie strikes two overs later to dismiss Humphreys. 45-4
Jamie takes one and Babar two more to make it 84-7. Wicketkeeper Suter then finds some support from skipper Davies before James raps him on the pad straight infront and from Catherall who is out smartly stumped off Babar who in the very next over bowls Robinson leaving Suter stranded on 52* at 131 all out.
It's not going to be a stroll in park as the clouds roll in.
The best stand of the day (44) sees Gary Hawkins make 12 as a stand in opener for Michael Ceillam who had an argument with the boundary rope as he saved a certain 4 in the Oswestry innings and would need a runner lower down the order. Fynn also takes Marc Webb's wicket with a peach of a ball pitching leg and clipping off peg. Roy walks after the faintest of nicks to Suter and receives a big round of applause from the sporting Oswestry crowd. Gaz comes and goes as the clouds darken. 82-4
Skipper James is joined by Dan Johnson who scores a run a ball 19 before James calls him for a suicidal run which not even fleet footed Dan can make. 123-5 as the drizzle starts.
Dan stays on to be Michael's runner. Guess what? 2 balls later James wants a reprise of the earlier run out and calls Dan for an even more suicidal single. Michael out for 0 with his good friend failing to get home for him!
Babar comes in, looks at black clouds, smashes 4 through mid wicket. Olton win by 6 wickets. James a brilliant 76 not out. Minutes later the heavens open.
Fortunate enough to be further north and east of Brockhampton, Olton get their match finished where Brockhampton dont and so Olton go second by 5 points.
A tough three weeks ahead as we play Wombourne who are 1st, Brockhampton who are 3rd and Whitchurch who are fourth! |
